In 2019, tennis star Rohan Bopanna was on the verge of retiring. “I have no cartilage in my knees. They’re both worn out from wear and tear,” Bopanna said in an interview.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, Bopanna discovered Iyengar Yoga and its transformative benefits, which reversed the condition of his knees and re-set his tennis game with renewed presence and calm.
In 2024, he went onto become the oldest Grand Slam champion at the age of 43 at the Australian Open and he credits regular Iyengar Yoga practice for this achievement.
A powerful, sophisticated and accessible discipline, Iyengar Yoga is adaptable to all stages of life. Its far-reaching benefits encompass vitality, clarity, and calm, assisting practitioners in all aspects of daily living.
Iyengar Yoga is suitable for all ages and body types. The technique helps you access healing by adapting the practices to target specific benefits. You can achieve this safely using props for support and clear instruction to guide your practice.
Iyengar Yoga maintains a worldwide, standardized instruction system, with Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers (CIYTs) undergoing rigorous training. Only CIYTs can teach Iyengar Yoga, employing clear demonstrations and props to support practitioners.
Emphasizing gradual progress and practice over quick results, Iyengar Yoga classes, uniquely crafted by CIYTs, offer a safe and systematic progression. The focus is on awareness, alignment and cleansing from the physical body through to inner layers of mind, energy, and spirit.
